NCHICA is a public/private consortium of organizations with an interest in the development of new ways to use information technology to improve healthcare in North Carolina. Dr. William Mattern of UNC-Chapel Hill is the current President of NCHICA.

I was responsible leading a group in the design and implementation of the first generation of the NC Telemed network used by Duke University Medical Center, the University of Chapel Hill Hospitals, Bowman Gray School of Medicine, and Pitt Memorial Hospital.

I was responsible for the management of a small group of people (7) who plan, install, maintain, and modify system software including MVS, CICS, SAS, SPF, TSO, JES, IOF, and various other IBM FDPs and IUPs. I managed the incremental design and enhancement of ADS - an application development system marketed by IBM. I was responsible for the performance monitoring and capacity planning for the Medical Center’s central computer site. I was responsible for the technical aspects of developing micro-mainframe communications in the medical center.
In this role I was one of the seminal figures in the development of DUMC’s campus intranet. I am now responsible for strategic planning for that intranet.

I was responsible for the planning, generation, maintenance, trouble-shooting, and modification of system software including MVS, CICS, SAS, SPF, TSO, JES, IOF and various other IBM FDPs and IUPs. I was responsible for incremental design and enhancement of ADS - an application development system marketed by IBM. I was responsible for the systems programming necessary to convert the central computer site from an IBM 3033 to an IBM 3081.

I was responsible for the generation, maintenance, trouble-shooting, and modification of systems software including IBM DOS, EDOS, Mohawk DMS and TMS (operating systems for Mohawk 2400). Hardware used was an IBM 360/30 and a Mohawk 2400. Languages used were PL/I, OS Assembler, MDL, and Mohawk Assembler.
